There are a number of health authorities around New Zealand who are encouraging people to improve their personal hygiene in order to reduce of the spread hygiene related infectious diseases. New Zealand , it is claimed, has the highest number of reported incidence of the campylobacter bacteria in the western world. In a recent television programme, “Close Up” revealed some 79 food establishments in the greater Auckland region with substandard levels of food hygiene.

Local Councils appear to be doing nothing to halt the operation of these sub standard restaurants and takeaway bars therefore in my opinion having no regard for the health and well being of their ratepayers.

Auckland councils are using a grading system to rate all our food premises, much the same way as we were graded at school. The problem with this is that the establishment receiving an “E” grading can still operate even though they are breaking most of the food hygiene rules whereas an “E” grading at school meant we had failed but here we are talking about people’s health and no consequences!
